Flora Food Group CEO Joins Global Leaders in Call for Climate Action

Amsterdam, Netherlands —10 October 2024 — Flora Food Group B.V. (“Flora Food Group” or “the Company”), global branded food champion, joins global leaders in call for climate action.

Flora Food Group, global branded food champion, today announced that its Group CEO, David Haines, has joined over 100 global business leaders in signing an open letter calling for accelerated climate action. This initiative, organised by the World Economic Forum's Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders, comes ahead of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku next month.

The open letter, signed by CEOs from a diverse range of industries representing $4 trillion in revenue and 12 million employees, urges governments worldwide to enhance collaboration with the private sector to deliver on the Paris Agreement goals. It emphasizes the need to close the emissions reduction ambition gap by 2050 to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

"At Flora Food Group, we recognize that every fraction of a degree counts in the race to net zero," said David Haines, Group CEO of Flora Food Group. "Our commitment to sustainability isn't just about protecting the environment—it's about securing a thriving future for our business, our consumers, and our planet."

The letter outlines four key areas where government action is crucial:

Developing ambitious and investable climate strategies

Scaling up climate finance

Removing obstacles to clean energy transition

Supporting breakthrough green technologies

As a food company, Flora Food Group is acutely aware of how climate change impacts supply chains and the communities it serves. The company has long been committed to sustainability, as evidenced by initiatives such as:

The 'Skip the Cow' campaign, highlighting the lower climate impact of plant-based butters and spreads compared to dairy products
Ongoing efforts to improve energy efficiency across 15 manufacturing sites
Innovation in sustainable products and packaging, including the development of paper-based packaging

"Sustainability has always been at the heart of everything we do as a business, by joining forces with other industry leaders, we're sending a clear message that the time for bold climate action is now." added Haines.

Flora Food Group stands ready to collaborate with governments, peers, and all stakeholders to build on the momentum from COP28 and drive meaningful progress at COP29 and beyond.
