Upfield Appoints Herman Betten as Chief Corporate Affairs and Communications Officer

Amsterdam, January 5, 2024 - Upfield, the global leader in plant-based foods, is pleased to announce the appointment of Herman Betten as Chief Corporate Affairs and Communications Officer. Based at Upfield's global headquarters in Amsterdam, Herman will lead the company's corporate communications and public affairs functions.

With over 15 years of experience advising organisations on strategic positioning and engagement with key stakeholders, Herman is well-equipped to elevate Upfield's reputation, presence and impact around its mission of creating the "Future of Food".

Most recently, Herman served as CEO of consultancy Teneo's Netherlands, leading integrated communications programs focused on financial communications, crisis management, and sustainability. Herman has also held senior roles at science-based company Royal DSM and a Netherlands-based financial newswire. Earlier in his career, he worked with Dutch national radio and television.

At Upfield, Herman will draw on his diverse expertise that spans media relations, government relations, sustainability partnerships, capital markets communication, and corporate brand building. Herman will work closely with senior leadership to engage stakeholders across the food system and showcase Upfield's progress in transforming food systems.

Herman will lead Upfield's expert Corporate Affairs & Communications team, including Susannah Moore, Director of Corporate Affairs and Communications; Perran Harvey, Senior Global Policy Lead and Daniel Wemyss, Communications Manager. He will also partner with Michele Gerlack, Global Head of Internal Communications and Engagement, and Sally Smith, Global Director of Sustainability and ESG. By aligning internal and external messaging, these teams will drive Upfield's reputation as a leader in plant-based food.
