Upfield to attend Food4Climate Pavilion at COP 28
The theme of "Together for Implementation" at COP28 reflects the crucial need for collective action across governments, businesses, and civil society to address the climate crisis. Food systems have a massive role to play in this transition. Shifting diets towards more plant-based foods that have a lower carbon footprint is one of the most effective ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and land use from agriculture.
That's why the presence of a dedicated Food Pavilion at COP is momentous. Upfield is proud to be exhibiting alongside NGOs like ProVeg International and other sustainability-focused companies to showcase how plant-based alternatives can transform our food system.
As the largest plant-based food company in the world, Upfield is committed to making this dietary shift as easy, delicious, and mainstream as possible. Our iconic brands like Flora, Becel/ProActiv, Rama, Country Crock, BlueBand, and Violife provide nutritious and affordable plant-based options that are better for people and planet.
For example, our plant butters and spreads have on average 70% lower carbon emissions compared to dairy butter. Our plant-based cheeses from Violife have less than half the climate impact of dairy cheese. And we've made significant progress, cutting our methane footprint by 26% in 2022 alone.
At COP28, we want to inspire more people, chefs, food companies, and policymakers to harness the power of plant-based food. Because when it comes to combating climate change, transforming our global diets is one of the most effective tactics we have.
Upfield is committed to using our global scale and innovation capabilities to make plant-based eating an easy choice all over the world. The road to a more sustainable food system – one that nourishes people and protects the planet - travels right through our plates. Let's make it a journey fuelled by plants.
